Medical Lab Technician - (200000XA)

Description

The Medical Lab Technician will perform routine laboratory tests, records and report results according to established procedures. Set up and maintain
equipment; monitor quality control standards. He/She will perform routine clerical and service duties as required. Duties may vary according to assigned area or shift.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED
Vocational Education
Associate's Degree

Specific Requirements and Preferences
completion of a 2 year (or greater) vocational/technical training program (Required)

Specific Requirements and Preferences
Clinical Lab or Registered Medical Lab Technician training (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and divison)

Functional Accountabilities

Technical and Reporting Skills
1. Perform routine technical procedures as assigned following standard operation protocols.
2. Report test results in writing, orally and/or by computer according to established procedures.
3. Document and maintain results record.
4. Verify test results performed by Laboratory Associates before release when technologists are not available.

Performance Checks
1. Operate instruments, perform performance checks, calibration, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshoot following written guidelines.
2. Identify problems and notify technologists of unresolved problems.

Problem solving
1. Identify technical and patient-related problems or discrepancies.
2. Resolve problems with technologist’s assistance and documents resolution.
3. Perform and report QC procedures.
4. Identify QC failures.
5. Report problems to Technologist and assist with trouble shooting and documentation of the resolution.

1. Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
2. Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
3. Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
4. Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication

Supply Maintenance and Specimen Collection
1. Prepare samples appropriately for analysis.
2. Prepare regents.
3. Store and preserve specimens.
4. Assist with monitoring supply inventories; receive and stock supplies.
5. Collect blood specimens from patients by venipuncture and capillary method.
