Description

Responsible for providing physical therapy to a wide spectrum of pediatric disabilities including both inpatients and outpatients Must be knowledgeable in therapeutic exercise, normal and abnormal development and orthotics/equipment.

Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Program (Required)

Required Licenses and Certifications
Physical Therapist Must have DC licensure or be a pending applicant for licensure with the DC Board with signed supervised practice form. Req

Functional Accountabilities

Evaluation
1. Obtain necessary history including previous medical conditions, pertinent family/social information and review of present complaints.
2. Acknowledge evaluation indications and contraindications and utilize correct evaluation methods
3. Select appropriate areas to assess: interpret assessment data accurately; re-assess at appropriate intervals
4. Apply evaluation principles to variety of pediatric disabilities.
5. Adapt methods when necessary based on patient’s condition and environment.

Treatment Planning
1. Apply knowledge of disease/disability in order to develop an appropriate intervention.
2. Identify team’s role and collaborate with others to develop treatment priorities.
3. Plan treatment based on accurate analysis.
4. Establish appropriate long and short term goals.
5. Appropriately plan for and assist team in discharge planning.

Clinical Skills
1. Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
2. Adhere to treatment precautions and contraindications.
3. Create and maximize treatment environment to aid patient’s progress and promote optimal independence.
4. Demonstrate effective problem solving skills.
5. Respond appropriately to patient’s responses to treatment.
6. Modify and adapt activities and uses variety of strategies to achieve goals
7. Instruct family and staff on activities to support patient’s treatment program
8. Identifies medical risks, complications and direct family to proper medical management.

Documentation
1. Comply with departmental policies and regulatory standards for inpatient and outpatient documentation.
2. Accurately documents all aspects of patient care.

Administrative
1. Complete BEARTIME requests, patient billing and scheduling accurately and on time.
2. Maintain all job requirements and competencies on time.
3. Complete all assignments and provides appropriate departmental /operational input as requested.

Safety
1. Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
2. Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
3. Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
4. Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
5. Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers
6. Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance

Professional Growth
1. Actively participates in case conferences, patients rounds, in-services and staff meetings.

3. Participate and enhance physical therapy role in multidisciplinary specialty clinics and programs; enhance professional growth and development and act in accordance with ethical principles stated by APTA and other regulatory boards.
4. Assume clinical instructor role for student program.
